University of Alberta

Office of the Vice President

Facilities and Operations is a diverse portfolio, covering everything from the maintenance of the university’s buildings and grounds, to capital construction and renovations; utilities and energy management; as well as planning and project management. Our portfolio provides a number of services to students and staff through Parking Services, Residence ServicesONECard, and Conference Services. We are also proud to be a founding member of the University’s Office of Sustainability, a joint initiative with the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).

It is our goal to create and maintain dynamic learning spaces that not only reflect the changing needs of our students, faculty and staff, but also enrich their university experience. Recent examples of some of these spaces include the Augustana Library and Forum in Camrose, Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA), and the Centennial Centre for Interdisciplinary Science (CCIS) at our North Campus. In addition to new construction, we also focus on the repurposing and renewal of the university’s existing facilities like Henry Marshall Tory and the Environmental Engineering Buildings.

We take pride in the work we do to support the institutional goals outlined in Dare to Discover: A Vision For a Great University. It is a privilege to serve our students, faculty and staff, and to work with our community neighbours as we look forward to the university’s next 100 years.

Don Hickey, P.Eng
